Midyear Freak-out Book Tag

I know things have been pretty quiet on my blog for a few weeks and I hope that my followers have enjoyed the book reviews I have been posting even if there have been a few less than usual! I am feeling really refreshed after a little blogging break and I am ready to start uploading more bookish things for your amusement! I’ve still got a tonne of tags to work through but I decided to start with this one as it seems relevant and looks like a lot of fun to do!

So I was tagged by the wonderful Kat @kbbookreviewer! I love this blog and I know that you will too so check her out and give her a follow!

How much have you read?

So far this year I have managed to read 79 books which according to Goodreads is 27 books ahead of my target of 100 books for the year. I have never read 100 books in a year before and when I set myself that target I really thought I wouldn’t get anywhere near it so to already be so close after only half the year has gone by is amazing to me!

What have you been reading?

Books? Haha! No, in all seriousness I have been reading bits of everything. I like to keep things interesting by not sticking solely to one genre or type of book so there’s been a good mix so far of fantasy, thrillers, historical, YA, MG etc!

Best Book You’ve Read So Far In 2021

I don’t think this is a fair question at all but if I had to pick one then my heart and soul tells me to go with The Poppy War series by R.F. Kuang. These books made me feel things I didn’t know where possible to feel.

Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2021

Another tough question because I actually haven’t read many sequels this year so AKOFAF sort of wins by default by being one of the only sequels I have actually read. I have read a tonne of standalones and newly released series this year that don’t yet have a sequel so maybe ask me this later on in the year?!

New release you haven’t read yet, but want to

There are way too many to list! One I am particularly keen on getting around to is Sisters of the Snake. It has been on my tbr pile for a few months since I was approved for the e-arc on Edelweiss but for some reason I’ve just not managed to find the time to squeeze it in yet!

Most anticipated release for the second part of the year

I have a lot of anticipated releases however Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune has to be at the top of that list. I requested the arc on Netgalley as soon as I saw it go up there but so far have not been approved for it. I am still hopeful every single day and if and when the moment comes that I am approved I will drop whatever I am reading at the time to start it!

Biggest disappointment

thursday murder club by richard osman

Okay so this was definitely not a bad book and I feel that needs to be said first of all. I enjoyed the story, particularly the characters. I just feel with the amount of hype this got that I should have loved it a lot more than I did.

Biggest surprise

I’ve chosen Mother Loves Me because this really was the biggest surprise ever. I picked it up not really knowing what it was all about simply because it was £2 on Amazon and I was buying something else at the time and simply thought for £2, why not? I read it when I was in the mood for a thriller and thought the blurb sounded good but my god… this book absolutely blew me away. I was completely hooked beginning to end. Hands down the best thriller I’ve read all year so far.

New favourite author (debut or new to you)

R.F. Kuang. After reading The Poppy War I will absolutely read anything that comes from this woman. Incredible!

Underrated gems you’ve discovered recently

I have absolutely no idea why more people are not reading and talking about this absolute gem of a fantasy book. Excellent characters, unique and fast paced plot and a stunning cover! Read it! You won’t regret it!

Rereads this year

I’ve reread 6 out of 7 of the Harry Potter books so far this year as well as the ACOTAR series!

Newest fictional crush

No specific fictional crush right now. Rhysand will always be my one and only!

Newest favourite character

Basically all the characters from House in the Cerulean Sea!

Book that made you cry

This doesn’t really happen often and hasn’t happened this year as far as I can recall.

Book that made you happy

Genuinely can’t think of a book that has made me happier than this one did!

Favourite book to film adaptation

I don’t really watch a lot of films or TV so I can’t really think of one.

Most beautiful cover you’ve bought (or received) this year

I got this as an e-arc as part of a book tour and I loved the book so much that I am absolutely planning on getting a physical copy for my forever shelf. It’s stunning!

Favourite posts you have done this year?

I really don’t think I have any favourite posts to be honest! I enjoy writing and sharing all of my reviews and other bookish things.
