|| Top 5 Tuesday || Adaptations I liked more than (or at least as much as) the books! ||

Hello my wonderful bookish friends! I had a little extra time on my hands this week and so I am taking part in this new meme! Top 5 Tuesday was created by Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm, and is now being hosted here @Meeghan reads.

This weeks prompt is TV/film adaptations that I liked more than the books. I decided to tweak it a little as there are very few that I actually like more than the books but there are quite a few that I enjoyed just as much as! I would love to know if you agree with any of my choices (or in fact disagree) so leave me a comment below and let me know what you think!

Any purchases made via my Amazon affiliate links will result in me being paid a small commission. This support helps me to pay for my blog running costs and is always appreciated but never expected. You can view my Amazon Influencer page **HERE** to browse all the books that I recommend.

The Vampire Diaries is one of those super, super rare cases where I genuinely enjoyed the TV adaptation a lot more than the book. In fact I DNF’d the book because I found it boring and the characters and storyline were just so much better on screen! I am actually in the process of rewatching this series at the moment and I’ve not seen it in years so I am really enjoying seeing it all over again from the beginning. The characters developing and changing all over again is so much fun. I had forgotten how much they all changed and grew over the seasons. I’m team Daemon, what about you?

Outlander, oh my goodness one of my favourite series of books ever and here it is adapted into on-screen perfection. I think the casting for this was just perfect and I love the series every bit as much as I love the books. I count down to the new series being aired every year!

These films were just epic! Absolutely epic! I watched them all recently and it has given me the urge to read the books again. It’s been so long since I read them and I have watched the films so many times that I can’t even recall the differences between them. I just know I loved them both!

What would one of my lists be really without a cheeky Harry Potter mention? This series will always have a very special place in my heart and I love it in all its formats. I love the books, I love the audiobooks and of course I love the films. Sure, a lot of things were missed from the books but it still remains one of the most amazing adaptations I have ever seen. I never get bored of watching these!

Last but by no means least we have Game of Thrones! This list would be incomplete without this series. I watched this from the very beginning. I used to stay up until 2am to watch each new episode as it aired live. When these episodes were airing it was all people talked about and you couldn’t go online for fear of spoilers until you watched the latest episode. I just wish so much that it hadn’t ended the way it did and I pray that when (if) we finally eventually ever get the next book release that it will be much more satisfying.

  1. This was a great post! I think Harry Potter was one of the most faithful book-to-movie adaptations, but Shadow and Bone (for the trilogy, at least, and the SoC characters) was nice, too. Hunger Games is perfection, but I actually liked Twilight? I don’t know, it used to be an unpopular opinion to NOT like Twilight and now it’s the reverse! TVD is okay, but to be honest, I didn’t like it as much!

I haven’t read or watched GoT (little too much gore) but I will! I’ve heard great reviews of it! Loved this compilation 🙂

    1. Thank you so much! I totally agree, it was such a good adaptation! I have yet to watch Shadow and Bone because I still haven’t read the books and I really don’t want to watch it until I have read it but I have heard great things from people who have seen it! I really liked Twilight as well to be fair although I was not a fan of New Moon. Breaking Dawn was my favourite!

  2. I loved the Harry Potter movies a little more than the books haha. I really need to continue watching Outlander. I watched the first few episodes of the first season and really liked it, but never went back to it. I haven’t read the book yet, but I’m thinking I might try listening to them because reading books with so many pages freaks me out and I always prefer larger books to be listened to because of that. That way I can read other books when I’m not listening to audiobooks haha. Great post! <3

    1. They are monster books! I considered rereading them when I finally got the release date for book 9 but it just seemed like a lot so I don’t know if I will or not! I may just rewatch lol!
